Mercedes and McLaren already presented a study of the SLR of Roadster at the IAA 1999, but only starting from July 2007 the Mercedes SLR Roadster can be ordered for 493.850 Euro.
Optically the roadster orients itself at the concise design of the
coupe. Contrary to the coupe the roadster has a button-pushed (only the
roof bolting device at the windshield framework must be run by hand)
concealable roof which disappears under a protective cover which locks
concisely with the body in only 10 seconds. Security in the roadster is
ensured by a carbon chassis with an outstanding twisting rigidity
according to Mercedes. The seat shells which are likewise manufactured
made of carbon are referred suitably the interior with semi aniline
leather. The proven AMG-8-cylinder-kompressor-engine with 5,5-Litre
capacity and 626 PS makes the road performance level of the coupe even
possible in the roadster - (0-100 km/h: 3.8 seconds, maximum speed 332
km/h).
